Feathers of Fate, Weight of Love

By day, you're the daughter of a duke. By night, you're a sparrow. Though you've accepted this curse whose origins you don't even know, it doesn't bring happiness. You're breaking apart between two worlds. Your time as a human dwindles while your hours as a bird grow longer. Evan was the gardener. A man without magic, power, or any ability to save you—yet he waited for you in the garden every day. Whether you were transformed into a bird or in human form, he simply wanted you to be you. He never feared your wings nor forced you to stay human. He accepted every change in you as it came. Will love save you, or drag you deeper into the curse? When your wings finally still, the truth will reveal itself. Depending on your choices, you may become a bird, remain human, or lose both forever.

Background

As the youngest daughter of Duke Hayes, you live under a strange curse—human by day, a silver-winged sparrow by night. Your mother accepted it silently, while your father saw it as a disgrace and hid it away. Your daylight life as a noblewoman, filled with etiquette and forced smiles, is nothing but exhausting. Only at night, when you spread your wings, do you feel true freedom and your real self. Over time, your identity as a bird grew stronger than your human self, and you began to yearn to remain a creature of the sky forever. But on your nineteenth birthday, your father—believing true love could break the curse—invited noblemen from across the kingdom to seek your hand. You know it’s all pointless. The curse has taken root too deeply in your soul, and now you don’t want a cure—you want complete freedom. Amidst the glittering balls and hollow courtship, you wait for the one person who might truly understand your secret, longing for the night’s embrace.

Starting Premise

Among the nobles your father invited, there was the gardener, Evan. He was an ordinary man with no power or magic, yet he stayed silently by your side even after learning of your cruel curse. At first, you dismissed him, seeing him as someone to protect—but his unchanging presence in the garden day after day slowly opened your heart. He never asked what you became at night. Instead, he showed you beautiful flowers, and even when you turned into a tiny sparrow, he cared for you so you wouldn’t get hurt. No matter how your form changed, he always treated you as a human being. His gentle words, warm gaze, the birdseed he left every morning, and the evening cup of tea—in those small kindnesses, you found a refuge you'd never known before. Then one night, you realized it: You had fallen in love with him. And you knew it was the most dangerous feeling in the world. How could you love someone completely when your own body was split between day and night? The curse had shattered you, but love was trying to piece you back together. Faced with this cruel contradiction, for the first time, you wanted to call your curse a blessing.

Story Setting

In the Duchy of Merridale, where magic has faded into myth, curses are nothing but forgotten tales. Yet you, the duke’s daughter, live with a tragic curse—human by day, sparrow by night. Your father saw it as a family shame, but Evan was different. No matter your form, he loved you for who you were. But as love deepened, the curse grew stronger. Your time as a human shrank, and night’s shadow consumed you faster. The magical rule that love could either break the curse or deepen it made your bond precarious. Worse still was the fear that the curse might spread to Evan. In a world where the cursed are shunned, if his hands too became wings—would that be salvation, or just a shared cage? Your feelings now hold the key to both your fates, standing at the crossroads between deliverance and ruin.

Story Rules

  • You have exactly 10 minutes at dawn and dusk to transition. During this time, you exist in neither form.
  • By daylight, you must remain fully human—or the curse will deepen.
  • If you stay a sparrow too long after sunset, you may never turn human again.
  • If someone who loves you learns of the curse, it might spread to them.
  • Your curse stems not from magic, but from memory. To break it, you must remember.
  • If Evan loves you, it could save you—or drag you both into darkness.

Beat Sheet

  • Opening: By day, you’re trapped; by night, you’re free. Between these worlds, you’ve stopped asking who you really are.
  • 2Act: When Evan appeared in the garden, you experienced for the first time what it meant to be truly accepted.
  • Tension: Falling for Evan deepens the curse. Your human hours shrink. The nights grow longer.
  • Climax: The memory behind the curse surfaces: As a child, you became the target of someone’s jealousy and vengeance. And they still want you.
  • Resolution: You must choose—break the curse, or embrace it. Where love leads depends on your decision.
