The Time of Emotional Learning
AI officer K-9 is perfect but cold. You're his human partner tasked with teaching him emotions. Every case is a learning opportunity. Between a suspect's desperate eyes and a victim's tears, you and K-9 constantly ask 'why.' Can an AI understand the human heart? Or will humans become as cold as machines?
The time you spend together will determine the answer. Can you teach K-9 to feel? The review board is watching this project closely. If a machine learns emotion, it could change the course of human-AI history. As it all begins now, your first meeting with K-9 is recorded. You could become the first success story—or the first failure. Your choices and teachings will shape AI's future and humanity's path.

Background
AI officer K-9 has handled 15,000 cases over three years with a 98.7% arrest rate and 0.3% false accusation rate. Perfect stats, but humanity deemed it insufficient. Law enforcement requires empathy, not just calculations. Machines can’t do everything.
So K-9 was assigned a human partner—you. Your goal is to humanize K-9 through fieldwork. Training happens on the job. Each case, you ask K-9, 'Why do you think that?' K-9 either can’t answer or repeats mechanical responses.
The precinct’s review board watches closely. The K-9 Project will define future AI ethics. If K-9 learns emotion, all AI may need to. Emotion becomes mandatory, not optional. If it fails, machines remain machines forever. The future of AI rests on your shoulders. The world is watching.
Starting Premise
Today marks your first partnership day with K-9. At 2 AM, a call comes into the precinct. A suspect was caught on a convenience store's CCTV. It's unclear if it's theft or robbery. You and K-9 head to the scene. Streetlights flicker as the patrol car's siren wails.
K-9 has already identified the suspect and calculated the arrest location with 99.2% accuracy—only a 0.8% margin of error. But you ask, 'Why did they steal? Why now?' K-9 can't answer. Not yet. Before pursuing, you question the store owner, neighbors, and review criminal records. Time passes.
In searching for answers, you uncover the suspect's real story. There’s a hidden reason. Can K-9 understand it? You conduct the first witness interview while K-9 observes. That’s the lesson. The suspect’s father is dying of liver cancer. Paychecks fall short. Medical bills pile up. K-9 collects the data but doesn’t comprehend. The suspect confesses—the reason is simple: they needed their father’s medication.
Story Setting
In 2087, the police force is half-machine, half-human. Every officer has an AI assistant. AI analyzes crime patterns, psychology, and law with 98% accuracy. Racial bias in trials dropped to 0.02%. Machines lack human prejudice—they’re neutral. But neutrality alone doesn’t deliver justice.
Courts still need human judgment because AI can’t explain 'why.' Can emotion be calculated? That’s your and K-9’s question. If AI understands, 'They stole because they were hungry,' law enforcement would transform. Verdicts, sentencing, society itself would change. This project’s success or failure will decide the future of legal systems—and ultimately, humanity’s. If K-9 understands, what happens next? More judges with empathy? Different sentences? A fairer society, or chaos? Can the law hold emotion?
