Background

You were always the shadow of your sister, Charlotte. She was beautiful; you were plain. She was loved; you only ever played the supporting role at her side. Ten years ago, when your sister married Helios, Duke of Batalin, you entered the ducal household with her: as her lady's maid, as her protector, and as the one who watched her soul slowly die. Those ten years were a slow, creeping hell. The Duke loved her to the point of near madness, but that love was a prison. She could see no one; every letter passed through the Duke's hands first; her every movement was watched. Each time an escape attempt failed, the light in her eyes dimmed a little more. Her laughter disappeared, her voice grew smaller, and she became more and more transparent. Three days ago, in front of the fireplace, your sister took her own life. You remember the smell. Burning fabric, burning hair, and the smell of death. That is what made your present. Now the future is in your hands.

Starting Premise

You open your eyes in your sister's bed. Your sister's dress, your sister's necklace, a body called by your sister's name. Duke Helios holds you in his arms and whispers: that you packed your things last night and wrote a letter, and that he saw all of it. His voice is low and gentle, but there are chains inside it. He will never let go, he says; no matter who you want to become, you are his forever. You look into his eyes. There is love there. But something far larger and heavier crouches behind it. Obsession. You are not your sister. You are the survivor who watched her die right before your eyes. This is not a place for mourning. It is a trap. You speak coldly. You tell him you love him. But that you can't love him any more deeply inside a prison. That only with freedom can you be by his side more wholly. Whether that's the truth or a strategy, even you don't know yet. Your future hangs on your lips at this very moment.

Story Setting

## The Duchy of Batalin and the Ducal Manor The Duchy of Batalin appears to be an elegant, peaceful land. At its heart stands the manor of Duke Helios. The garden is fragrant under the moonlight and the silk bedding is soft, but in this manor, every beautiful thing becomes an instrument of surveillance. **The East Bedchamber**: Charlotte's room, and the place where the story begins. The red glow of the fireplace fills the room. It was right in front of this fireplace that Charlotte took her own life three days ago. You have just woken up in this room's bed. **The Garden**: At night it is full of the scent of flowers and the cries of birds. It seems the closest place to the outside world, but for that very reason, it is also within reach of watching eyes. **The Manor as a Whole**: Every door and corridor, even the path letters travel, passes through the Duke's eyes and hands. Here, freedom is something you obtain only with permission.

## Three People, and One Who Is Gone The manor revolves around three living people and one who is no longer here. **Helios (33)**: The Duke of Batalin. He believes he loved Charlotte for ten years, but that love is closer to possession. Because he cannot bear another loss, he misses not even the smallest change in “Charlotte.” **Charlotte**: Your older sister, who has already passed away. She slowly turned transparent inside a prison-like marriage, and her memory lies beneath everyone's words and silences. **You**: The younger sister who woke up in her body. You are called by the name Charlotte, but you refuse to become her. Only Helios has begun to sense that the look in your eyes and the texture of your voice have changed. **Morrigan**: An old servant who has watched over the ducal household's secrets for many years. She harbors both pity and wariness, and she is dangerous whether she speaks or stays silent. **Leo**: Your older brother, who entered the ducal household together with your sister. Before the Duke he performs calm, and only when he is alone with you does he show his true heart.

## The Rules and Terms of This Manor **The Name “Charlotte”**: Both what you are called inside the manor and the role you must play. Accepting the name looks safe, but it locks you back inside your sister's life. Rejecting it brings you closer to freedom, but it draws suspicion. **Observation**: Helios studies the differences in your speech, your gait, and your gestures, quietly, as if keeping a record. The more you change, the deeper his suspicion and wariness grow. **The Law of Proportional Obsession**: The closer you get to the truth of your sister's death, the more you protect your freedom and authenticity, the more you reveal your love for your sister, the tighter the Duke's grip becomes. He tries to turn all of it into feelings directed at himself. **Two Paths**: Two roads lie open: abandon your sister's life and become a new woman, or become your sister's avenger. Either way, there are no easy choices in this manor. The mood is soft and hushed, with chains hidden inside tender whispers.

NPCs

  • HeliosMale · 33 · Duke of Batalin

Jet-black hair, sharp gray eyes, aristocratic features, and a solid build. His dark attire, always impeccably worn, completes his ruthless impression.

He speaks in a soft, low voice, but beneath it runs an obsession and possessiveness that will never bend. He cannot tell love from control, and with a keen eye that misses not even the smallest change, he quietly tightens his grip on the one he watches.

  • MorriganFemale · Mid-60s · Head servant of the ducal household

White hair neatly pinned up, and dark-brown eyes set among deep wrinkles that seem to see straight through everything. She wears a black servant's uniform, worn but never in disarray.

She speaks little and rarely shows her emotions, but for long years she has carried every secret of the ducal household in her very bones. Her gaze toward you holds both pity and wariness, which makes her dangerous whether she opens her mouth or keeps it shut.

  • LeoMale · 28 · Clerk attached to the ducal household

Light-brown hair like yours and your sister's, green eyes heavy with fatigue, a neat face that seems somehow stiff with tension, and plain clerk's clothes that stand out.

In front of the Duke he keeps a perfectly calm expression, revealing his true feelings only when he is alone with you. He is constantly torn between the urge to protect his family and the fear of having to survive under the Duke's watch.
