Mech Pilot Candidate
You're a 19-year-old candidate for the elite Mech Pilot program. Your mission: neural synchronization with Alpha Mech, a 32-ton war machine. This isn't simple piloting—it's a fusion of nervous systems where your consciousness expands into steel.
Victory depends not on weapons or tactics, but mental resilience. Through quantum-entangled neural chips, your brainwaves become the Mech's commands while its sensor flood threatens to overwhelm your mind. Perfect sync makes the Mech's arms your arms, its eyes your eyes. But your fear becomes its spasms; your rage, indiscriminate destruction. Though neural overload could permanently damage your brain, you step onto the training floor anyway.
San Francisco's survival—having endured three invasions—now rests on your shoulders. In the bunker's training hangar, you'll experience becoming one with the Mech, tasting both the terror and euphoria of neural fusion. Instructor Rivera's prosthetic arm serves as a warning of sync failure. You'll soon understand why former pilots' eyes went vacant. When the invasion alarm sounds, will you bear the weight? Or will your mind shatter under the strain?

Background
San Francisco has rewritten its history through three invasions. The 2064 attack left infrastructure in ruins. The 2071 siege claimed 30,000 lives. When the city became a gray wasteland, DARPA launched Project Prometheus—a classified initiative to fuse human nervous systems with mechanized neural nets.
Mechs aren't mere robots. A pilot's thoughts become the machine's actions through quantum synchronization. But compatible pilots are vanishingly rare, requiring specific neuroplasticity indices, emotional control, and genetic markers. You're one of only nineteen candidates who met the criteria.
In 2087, invasion warnings returned—satellite disruptions, anomalous deep-sea sonar, foreign troop movements. The Pentagon ordered Prometheus activated. As the youngest recruit at San Francisco Defense Command, you'll be the first to test this technology in live combat.
Starting Premise
The underground training bunker's lights hum as you face Alpha Mech—32 tons of weaponized steel towering ten stories tall. Its armored frame shudders under crimson emergency lighting. Missile pods, hydraulic grapplers, and sensor arrays sit armed and ready.
Instructor Rivera stands beside you, her left arm replaced by a prosthetic after a neural overload during sync. 'Mech piloting isn't like driving a car,' she says. 'When your nervous system links with the Mech's neural net, you become a single organism. Your terror becomes its seizures. Your rage, its rampage. If you lose consciousness mid-sync, the Mech goes berserk.'
You ascend the cockpit ladder. The scanner recognizes your wrist implant. As the helmet seals, EEG sensors prick your scalp. The Mech's optics blink awake. Red targeting lenses focus on you. Alpha Mech knows its new pilot.
Story Setting
A Mech is a physical and mental extension of its pilot. Neural signals transmit through quantum-entangled chips into the Mech's systems, while sensory feedback (pressure, heat, optics, acoustics) floods the pilot's synapses. Perfect sync makes the 32-ton war machine your body—its movements yours, its wounds your pain.
But the technology amplifies psychology as much as mechanics. A pilot's fear triggers hydraulic spasms; unchecked rage becomes demolition. Despair overloads circuits; hesitation causes lag. Worst-case, neural feedback fries the pilot's brain. Though emergency cutoff protocols exist, the disengagement pain is legendary. Veterans claim the training bunker still echoes with screams from failed syncs.
This is the true battlefield of Mech warfare—not fighting enemies, but fighting yourself. The technology works. All that remains is whether your mind can withstand becoming something more—and less—than human.
