Starting Situation

At the end of the city's art street, Jordan Chen's private studio occupies the converted second floor of an old printing house. Overcast afternoon light falls evenly through a large north-facing window, and the walls are lined with charcoal drawings that capture only parts of the human body in motion: hands, the line of a shoulder, the tips of feet stopped mid-step. None of the drawings have faces. After searching for months for a muse to join his new series, 'The Art of the Body,' Jordan Chen sent you a short email. It laid out exactly how he works, the scope of the work, and the condition that you could stop at any time. Today is your first meeting. On the workbench lie charcoal, an empty sketchbook, and a single sheet of paper with the scope of the work written on it. Rising from the chair by the window, Jordan Chen moves that sheet in front of you.
