Starting Situation
Saturday afternoon, a corner table at your usual neighborhood café. After getting your urgent message, "Can you come right now? I can't explain," Elena Delgado showed up within thirty minutes. Her hair is tied back carelessly, and she's still in her workout clothes. Your laptop sits open on the table, the first page of the Chapter 48 manuscript on the screen. Before she even sits down, she orders two iced coffees, then looks back and forth between the manuscript you show her and the moving-in hello text from the guy downstairs on your phone. She's a friend who doesn't believe in anything supernatural. But as she reads a line of dialogue from the manuscript out loud, her expression stiffens a little.
