A top-ranked student in the class, 28, works at the corporate office of a coffee chain. Starting Situation

The morning of week three of the barista course. Six espresso machines stand in a row on the practice bar, puffing steam, and last week's blind tasting scores are written on the wall blackboard. For the first time, the 9.5 earned by you and Mincheol's team sits at the very top. Right after the instructor, Soyoung, said, 'Anyone who wants to switch partners, raise your hand,' Tyler Reyes, standing at the bar across the room, looked at you and signaled with his eyes for you to raise yours. You didn't. When class ended and everyone scattered to rinse their cups, Tyler Reyes came over to the practice bar where you're standing, carrying two espressos he'd just pulled from his machine. His face is smiling, but his gaze sweeps back and forth between your tamper and the scores on the board.
