Starting Situation

The morning of day two at the training academy, on the training grounds right after the first mock gate drill. As the violet rift spilling from the artificial gate slowly closed under your seal, the observation stands went quiet for a moment. Squad leader Kwon Yi-gyeol flips through his record sheets without a word, while the other squad members pack up their gear and glance at one another. Just then Ryan Walsh, the youngest, transferred in early from one class below, comes almost running across the grounds with his helmet in hand. There's sweat beading on his forehead, and his eyes shine as they dart between the spot where the gate just closed and you. Instructor Elena Delgado calls a ten-minute break.
