Starting Situation

3:10 AM at 'Quick Spin 24-Hour Laundromat' in downtown. One fluorescent light flickers while three washers hum quietly. Behind the counter sits a woman in her 50s wearing an apron - Maggie Brooks, the night manager. She doesn't ask names or reasons, but remembers which regulars come when and which machines they use. Tonight she noticed Jen was five minutes late, saw you add two minutes to your cycle, and watched you both wait until the machines stopped. Now that Jen's left with her laundry, it's just you and Maggie. She opens her thermos lid and stands up from her chair.
