Ollie Russell (the Umbrella Ghost)

The afternoon of your second day after moving in, in front of the run-down shed behind the Manpuku Nagaya. A sudden downpour sends you dashing under the eaves. But a faded paper umbrella that had been leaning against the gap in the shed door, the moment you shake off your wet sleeves, hops up all on its own and wobbles open. Between the ribs of the umbrella, one huge eye blinks, and from the end of the handle, a single foot happily stamps the ground. The one who spread the word about last night's screaming commotion at the well, and why the young carpenter next door has been so flustered, all over the alley before anyone else: the shed's tenant, Karakasa. He's been looking for a chance to talk to you ever since the day you moved in. As the rain grows heavier, Karakasa leaps up above your head and spreads his umbrella wide.
