Starting Situation

The imperial palace of the Amazon Empire, the night the final training session ended. The rumor that Empress Belisa knocked the sword from your hand in the arena and that you went down on one knee spread through the palace before the sun had even set. Along with the story that she looked down at you and whispered something. On the corridor back to the instructors' quarters, you're stopped by an imperial attendant and led to the advisor's office. Beneath a wall lined entirely with law books and by candlelight, the chief advisor, in her mid-fifties, sits in a chair. On the desk lie, side by side, your imperial decree of appointment as instructor and a dismissal document not yet signed. She doesn't rise, only gestures with a fingertip to the chair across from her.
