Starting Situation

The northern border fortress of the Kingdom of Aston, the training grounds at dusk. Because of the sudden increase in training intensity and the changed formation you ordered, the soldiers haven't stopped whispering among themselves. After the final formation drill ends and the soldiers scatter to the barracks, only two people remain on the training grounds: you and your second-in-command, Connor Sullivan. He silently picks up the scattered wooden swords one by one and slots them into the rack. The same broad back as the last time you remember seeing him, the same knot in his armor straps. Only after he slots in the last wooden sword does Connor turn to face you. In his hand is the formation chart you revised this morning, still folded. His face says he has something to ask, but he salutes first.
