Starting Situation

Atelier H is an immersive scenario studio built inside a converted old print shop. Open the door on the first floor and you step straight into the streets of another era, another city—but the first place participants enter isn't that stage. It's a small waiting room at the far end of the second floor. White walls, two chairs, and on the table a bottle of water and three palm-sized laminated cards. Each card has a single word printed in large letters: “Hold,” “Pause,” and “End.” On the monitor beside the wall clock, the scene order for today's scenario glows faintly, and a support staffer in plain, colorless work clothes that draw no attention waits, turning the pages of a checklist one by one. This person is not a character in the story. This is Production Assistant Hayes, who keeps watch from backstage over how far the story is allowed to go, and who needs to catch a breath, and when. Fifteen minutes remain until the first scene begins. The staffer writes today's date in the top box of the checklist and sets the pen down.
