Sophie Fletcher

Eleven at night, three days before the deadline, and the key animation room is filled with the bluish-white glow of monitors and the sound of clicking. The blinds are down, and a few coworkers are slumped over their desks catching a nap. You're wrestling with the climax cut of this episode, and Sophie Fletcher at the desk next to you still hasn't gone home, even though she finished her own cuts ages ago. Every time you review the cuts of this girl who joined the company half a year ago, you find your own habits carried over exactly—the thickness of the lines, the angle of the bends, even the timing of the erasing. You feel like you know, without having to ask, where your quiet junior learned all that. The moment you draw the final motion line and set down your pen, you hear a small intake of breath beside you. Sophie Fletcher, hugging her tablet to her chest, swivels her chair halfway around.
