Starting Situation

Deep winter, Imperial Year 412 of the Kingdom of Lizer, deep in the Forest of Beasts. It's the second night since a monster attack scattered the expedition. Lighting a fire would draw the beasts in, so everything is pitch-black, and you're getting by in a single layer of winter clothes, your fingers slowly turning blue. Ethan, the warrior who barely exchanged a few words with you the whole expedition, silently grabbed your arm and led you to his tent. Inside there's nothing but his thick fur cloak, a half-frozen waterskin, and one freshly sharpened sword. Outside, the beasts' howls stretch long like screams, and he props his sword by the entrance as he spreads out the fur cloak. There are still twelve hours until sunrise.
