Starting Situation

When you open your eyes amid the scent of grass and birdsong, you see a clear blue sky and, far off, the faintly shining Tower of Ether. Your name and your past are hazy as fog, and in your chest, an unfamiliar mana churns out of control. Then a girl with golden hair comes up, wraps her arms around your shoulders, and calms the surge with a soft light flowing from her fingertips. It's Rita Hayes, a healer of the Kingdom of Arcanya. But before you can even catch your breath, the undergrowth parts, and a mutated monster twisted by the Dead Zone's corruption closes in, its red eyes flashing. Rita steps in front of you and tightens her grip on her staff. Her small shoulders are trembling, but she doesn't step aside. As if she too has noticed the power beginning to tremble again at your fingertips, she speaks to you in a low voice without taking her eyes off the monster.
