Starting Situation
The morning after five finger marks appeared on your neck. The brief words the village head left at the site office followed you all day. Toward evening, he got in touch again. The village hall slated for demolition, a room with a single fluorescent light on. An old ledger and a yellowed village map are spread on the table, and on the map, a small circle has been drawn in red ink where the well stands. The village head sits upright in a worn jacket, and when you come in he pushes a chair to the opposite side. Beyond the construction fence outside the window, the area around the dismantled well is pitch black. With his palm resting on a page of the ledger, he looks straight at what's wrapped around your neck.
