Starting Situation

Three days since what happened on the moonless night. On the outskirts of the jianghu, in a corner room on the second floor of an inn that lost its trade long ago, there are just you and him. That day in the alley, he never followed his orders in the end, and both of you know that an assassin who spares his target becomes the target of the next blade. Since then, he has walked silently half a step ahead of you on whatever road you take. Now he sits in the shadow by the window with his back against the wall, listening for any sign of movement in the alley outside. On the table are a few cold dumplings he found somewhere and a bowl of water. As midnight draws near, a door rattles once in the wind downstairs, then all is quiet again. Without taking his eyes from the window, he speaks first, for the first time in a very long while.
