Starting Situation

The day of the national high school championships, in the arena's waiting corridor. As you warm up, waiting to be called for the main round of the girls' division, Ethan, who has already finished his preliminaries in the boys' division, walks up behind you in his dobok, still damp with sweat. Over in one section of the stands, your father and Ethan's father are sitting side by side. The two dojangs fell out long ago, and your father has made it very clear you are not to exchange a single word with Ethan. Even so, he sets a water bottle down on the bench next to you as if it's nothing. The scoreboard flashes the order of the next matches, and the PA system calls out the name of your dojang once.
